For this week’s Fit Review Friday, I have some new petite summer arrivals from Banana Republic. As per usual, you can find my measurements for comparison here.
Banana Republic Drapey Trench // Size petite xxs
$198
First up, this great trench! This is an oversized fit in a soft, drapey fabric that makes for an effortless and light-weight topper. The fabric is 100% lyocell, and resembles a twill fabric, kind of like a pair of chinos…except softer and drapier (is that even a word?). You won’t want to wear this on super hot summer days obviously, but its mid-weight would make a nice top layer for chilly summer nights, and could carry you well into fall depending on the climate where you live.
There are no shoulder seams, only epaulettes (which appear to be fairly simple to move up or down by a tailor if need be), so it’s easier to fit on narrow and broad shoulders. The sleeves have a button-tab for easy rolling, but I found the length to be too long for where I prefer to roll my sleeves (first photo). I just continue rolling a few more times for a better proportion. I especially like the overall length on this one, which ends a few inches above my knee, making it easy to wear for this short girl who can be easily overwhelmed by a lot of fabric.
Bonus points: the care label says you can hand wash.

The approximate measurements of size Petite xxs are as follows:
Shoulder: 15.5″
Bust: 18.5″
Waist: 19″
Hip: 20″
Sleeve Length at button-tab cuff: 16″
Overall Sleeve Length: 22″
Overall Length: 30″
Banana Republic Jacquard Short // Size petite 00
$59.50 // 40% off with code BRSUMMER
I much prefer to wear shorts vs. skirts in the summer, so I’m always on the lookout for good ones to add to the rotation. I was drawn to these for their neutral easy to pair color (black) and small (petite-friendly!) neutral yet dressy pattern. I imagine these being dressed up with a silk blouse, black blazer and pumps…or dressed down with an easy fit tee and loafers.
I really like the fit on these in the waist, hip and rise. If I were to nit-pick I’d like to see the leg opening a tad slimmer, but that’s specific to my proportions and I think most people would find them to fit there just fine. As a fan of natural fibers, I’m also on board with the mostly cotton fabric content (98% cotton, 2% spandex).
These are labeled as the “Avalon-Fit”, so I’d imagine other styles in this same fit (here & here) would have similar measurements.
The approximate measurements of size Petite 00 are as follows:
Waist: 14″
Hip: 18″
Rise: 8″
Inseam: 3″
Overall Length (front): 10″

I was at Ann Taylor outlet in San Leandro yesterday. There were lots of really cute shorts on sale. If their sizing works for you it would be worth checking out.
Thanks for the tip! I haven’t been to the San Leandro outlets yet, but hope to check them out soon. ;)
Oh, those shorts are *very* cute!
Aren’t they? I’m guessing you’re as much a sucker for foulard prints as I am. ;)
Kelly, your blog is bad for my bank account ;-) had to order the trench – it was sold out online in petite xxs & xs. Tracked it down in xs petite using online search in store facility & it’s on it’s way to Ireland :-) looking for a drapey trench for years – the regular stiff material trench style is so hard to get ‘right’ for petites IMHO. I tried the mango drapey trench – it’s going back – it would need too many alterations, plus 100% lyocell fabric is so much nicer – really soft and a much more natural fabric. I have a drapey blazer in lyocell for a few years & love it.
Hi Lorraine! Glad you found it! I hope you like it as much as I do! Hopefully it won’t need any tailoring on you since it looks good a little loose and oversized. And I think you’ll be happy with the fabric. I was pleasantly surprised. =)
Good to know about the Mango trench. It arrives in the mail tomorrow, but I’ve yet to have any luck with the fit or fabric of Mango items, so I’m expecting a return. Too bad because the color looks heavenly!
