Spiked Necklace

This weekend was going to be a rainy one, so I soaked in the sun while I could. I also wore a few items that would be just impractical once the rainy weather set in. Fabric covered shoes that would soak up rain water…check. A cheapie necklace that will probably turn all green and icky if it gets wet…check.

The necklace is a recent steal from Loehmann’s. I remember being drawn to it a few months ago, but the price tag was still a little steep for me, considering it wasn’t real silver. The other day, there it was, on sale, hanging on the “extra 50% off” rack for a grand total of $7. The detail is really beautiful, in a strange kind of way. Even though it’s a big statement piece, it’s made of so many smaller parts that it’s almost delicate.

Close up (posted on Instagram):

Between this piece and the BCBG Collar Necklace, it’s seems I’m in an experimental phase with my jewelry. I’m going bigger, tougher, and statement making.

“Okay, all that back-lighting and bokeh stuff is pretty and all, but what does that get-up really look like?”

Outfit Details: Ann Taylor dress shirt, size 00P :: 7 for All Mankind jeggings, size 24 :: Manolo Blahnik shoes, size 34.5 :: Ann Taylor belt, size xs :: Punch necklace :: Sterling silver bangles & ball bracelet

Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!

Notes on this post: 1. People say I look tall in my photos, which is pretty much only because no one average sized is standing next to me, and crafty camera angles. I feel like I look short in the first photo, and by short, I mean close to my real height. What do you think? 2. The close-up shot of the necklace was taken on my iPhone. I’m amazed at what nice photos that thing can take!

I LOVE this outfit Kelly!  And to be honest with you, I didn’t know how tiny you are till I saw you in person lol!  You’re not petite size, you’re pocket size!

Hmm, I suppose the first picture does make you look more your height, so indeed you are clever with your angles to make you seem taller than you really are.
In a quick response to Wendy’s comment, quite frankly it made me think of my sister who is literally pocket size, too. She’s 4′ 11″ like you, and (hopefully she doesn’t mind giving this away) weighs less than 95 lbs…I even tend to forget how small I am until someone points it out or am standing in front of a mirror with a “normal” size person, haha. Perhaps the same happens to you?
Always love your style; put together, comfortable and stylish. It’s great that you’re experimenting with your jewelry. =)

    1. Yes! I never realized how small I really was until college. There was a girl on my floor in the dorms who was itty bitty! I was amazed at how small she was, until we met for the first time…and I found out I was smaller than she was! After seeing how small she looked in my eyes, I realized what I must look like to other people.  =)

Necklace looks high end!  I also have those same 7FAMK jeggings in 24.  Do you plan on hemming them?  Normally I just cut, fold, and hand stitch.  But since these are designer, I’m probably going to get a real hem job done.

    1. I haven’t decided what to do with the jeans yet. I’ve been playing with the scrunch look, and this cuff look, so I haven’t made a final decision. I’m not sure the scrunched bottom look is good on me, but I do like them cuffed like this. I’ll probably wear them cuffed for a while until I get bored of it, and then hem them. Aren’t these jeans great? Do you have the same style in any other colors? I tried on a “gummy” pair in the same size and the fit was way baggier.

Ick, what is with the weather? I have those jeggings in black but love the olive color on you, I should put them on my list – love the way you cuffed them! And yes you look way tall here!

I love your recent jewelry finds!  I am still in love with that gold ring you splurged on a couple months back!

You do look tall in these photos…I agree with the reasons you gave.

We only got a slight bit of rain here.  It reminded me that I need better work shoes for rainy days!

Nice! I think I know the Forever21 necklace Girlie Blogger talked about, and I did pick it up. It has similar details but is only one rung, and is the perfect length for -under- collared shirts. As you say, though, makes a statement without being overwhelming, which is perfect.

I loooove the color of those jeans!! That necklace was a great buy too and I can see it with various outfits. I think you look pretty tall in all of your photos!

Two things I notice right away. The necklace and shoes.  The simplicity of the outfit is what makes the necklace and the shoes stand out.

  11. I seem to be collecting statement necklaces lately too. I have a similar necklace (albeit dainty) from Stella&Dot and I love it.
You’ve always looked tall to me and was very surprised when I saw your meet-up pic with Jean, Jen and Wendy. You’re small but at least you look proportional.

Love the necklace!  Even though it’s a pretty big statement, I think it’s very wearable, especially with a simple, chic outfit like this one.

I think you do look tall in most of your pictures.  I need to employ whatever camera tricks you use!

You *do* look tall in your photos! It took me reading a few posts to find out you were petite! I think it has to do with proportions and angles.  I think in the first photo, if we actually knew how high the fence behind you was – we’d have a better gauge on your height :D *Loving* the Spiked Necklace… have you seen the Duquette spiked necklace by Coach?!

When I read the post titled I was thinking more of the black leather collar with spikes coming out perpendicular to your neck! Great find with this necklace :)

Hey don’t forget that ring you picked up not too long ago (or did you return it?) – you’re definitely going bad @ss with your jewellery :P

You look fantastic Kelly, I think you look proportioned which is why people will say you look tall in your photos!

  16. When I saw you tweet this necklace – or maybe it was on Instagram, I thought WHOA. That is SO not her style – but realized you were probably starting to try things outside of your comfort zone. I never thought I’d wear studded leather bracelets – but I do – and I love them. I also think my iPhone takes amazing photos – especially after you factor in the Instagram filters. :)
