I love fun fabrics, like tweed, houndstooth…and yes, seersucker! So when I found this little Theory jacket on the sale rack at Bloomingdales (extra 40% off!), and refused to let it out of my tiny clutched hands, my boyfriend took pity on me, called it a birthday gift, and a lucky sales associate earned a commission.

It has shoulder pads, which I’m usually against, so I took it to my tailor to have them removed, and possibly the sides taken in. She took one look at it, told me it was fine the way it was, and sent me home saying I should leave it alone. I got it home, took another look at it, and I…well…think she’s right. It has a slouchy feel to it, which I’m not used to (which is why I wanted to take it in), but it makes the look relaxed and youthful.
This is just a real simple, and cool summer look that I can see myself wearing a lot.
Have you tried the slouchy blazer look?
I LOVE this outfit on you. The fit looks fantastic! You look so put together!
You are so much nicer to your clothes than I am. I usually just cut out the shoulder pads and hastily stitch in if I had to cut out any "flesh" fabric.
This is just my preferences but I don't like pointy shoes! However, I really like how they elongate your legs! And they are Manolos…. le drool.
gosh that looks AMAZING on you! I love everything about this outfit.
I love this jacket, it's suits you perfectly!
Do you use a tripod to take pictures?
Daisy351 – Thanks! I really love the jacket.
Hanna – LOL. I know I would ruin anything I would attack with a pair of scissors, so I leave it to the professionals. I'm not a fan of pointy shoes either, but for some reason, the tweedy Manolo goodness of these just make my heart all gooey. When I first tried them on, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face, so I knew they had to come home with me. They are the only pointy shoes I've ever owned.
curls-and-pearls – Thanks!
Elle – I use a Canon Rebel XSi camera, a tripod, and a remote control to take my photos.
I really like that blazer on you. I agree with your taylor. This blazer is somewhat casual compares to other ones you have. That's why it has a slouchy feel to it. Overall, it is a well put together outfit. BTW, your new spot for blog pictures looks lovely. Natural lighting makes such a big difference. The best thing is that it's indoor. I always have to watch out fir my neighboors before taking pictures. I got caught a few times though. They prob. think I'm crazy :)
Ooh, I'm loving it! And I think your tailor made a good call too. Shoulder pads are in right now. ;)
You put this outfit together so well! I really like the blazer on you and I really love your hair <3
Super cute jacket! And look…your own private photo lair with perfect lighting.
I took out the shoulder pads myself from my latest Theory blazer and kinda wish I left them in. They provided a stronger structured look that I wansn't used to, and as a result acted hastily on.
I am in love with your jacket! I have a soft spot for anything of the "train conductor" style. I tried a similar jacket on yesterday at Banana in an XS Petite…sadly did not work out. Would have probably worked had it been offered in a 00P. Sad thing is…it was only $20.99…such a bummer!
As for as the jacket needed any alterations, I would say no need…I think it looks great the way it is. I love the touch you added with the brooch.
I so far have one blazer (navy from LOFT) in my collection…thanks to getting inspiration from your posts. I have never done a casual blazer (or any blazer) for work, so I am so excited to try it out this year!
Very nice! :)
While looking at new fall things I've come across t-shirts, yes t-shirts, with shoulder pads. I probably let out an audible gasp because, you know, I've already done the 80's and I have no desire to them again. Shoulder pads give a jacket nice structure but seeing them in tees once again makes me nervous.
I don't usually like seersucker, but this outfit looks really easy and chic. Looks very office appropriate and professional for Fridays. And it's great that you have a tailor honest enough to let you know when something fits!
Have a great day!
Jen
Love the seersucker blazer! It's perfect for summer. I can see this looking just as cute with shorts or even a skirt for warmer days.
I've been on the search for a blazer and finally found one that fit perfectly at Zara yesterday. I was so excited! I'm always so behind on finding all the staple items everyone raves about.
Hello there!
I've been a silent follower of your blog and love seeing the outfits you put together. I must say though, this outfit comes close to being the "best yet". Love the fact that you're now taking the photograph with your face and also love the background – a nice break from your usual white wall :)
The jacket looks very structured, which I would think makes a petite woman look shorter but this jacket totally elongates your figure. Well done! ;)
Cute pics and love the background! This outfit is so simple and clean- love it!
PetiteLittleGirl – I want to venture outdoors too, but I am a bit nervous about weird stares from other people. I'll need a photographer for that. Imagine how weird it would be to travel around outside with a tripod! =P
Petite Asian Girl – My tailor warned me the jacket would lose it's structure if the shoulder pads were removed. That's why I ask the professionals first. I know I would ruin so many things that way!
Michelle – Train conductor…LOL! I think I need a seersucker cap to polish off this look now. =) Glad you're venturing into casual jackets…it's my favorite look hands down!
Jen – Even though my tailor lost money that day for telling me not to alter the jacket, she's made a return customer out of me with her honesty. Best tailor I've ever had.
michLA – Good idea to try it with a skirt…I'll have to dig in my closet and see if anything works. Yay! So glad you found a nice jacket at Zara!
Anonymous (2:20 PM) – Thanks for commenting! I love hearing from my "silent followers"! =) Thanks for the outfit love! And, yes, the photos are much better in my new photo lair than my white wall. Luckily moving out of my dungy apartment has opened up pretty photo opportunities.
Thank you everyone!
Late comment (can't access blogs at work – boo!) but like everyone else, love the outfit and the jacket is great! Even though I'm not one for seersucker. Adorable new backdrop, too :)
Love the new spot! Outdoor lighting but indoors! :)
I probably would've wanted to remove the shoulder pads too, but I actually didn't even notice until you mentioned them. I think they work on you because you have relatively narrow shoulders too. I love "easy" but put-together outfits!
Love the Theory blazer and the pinstripe pattern! This is such a cute outfit; you look amazing! :)
Love it!! Your tailor is always right ;-) Love her!
are you still going to the tailor in LA? If you ever find one here, pls let me know. I've been searching forever! I feel there are none here. I actually drive to Temecula (where I'm from) to go to my fave tailor who opened his own shop after working @ nordstrom for so long. He even works w/swimwear!
Are the sleeves on this jacket long? and you just scrunched them in these pics? I'd be interested in seeing them in their natural state.
mich LA mentioned they'd be great paired w/shorts. Any chance we'll ever see you in shorts?
Aubrey – I've got one foot in LA and one in SD at the moment, so I'm still going to my LA tailor. I will have to find a SD one, so I'll let you know if I find a good one!
The sleeves on this jacket are actually short! They are meant to be 3/4, which stops at an awkward spot on me. I like to fold up/scrunch on my jacket sleeves anyways, so it works for me to just shove them past my elbow.
Probably more of a chance you'll see me in skirts…I still don't have a good pair of shorts. =P
When this jacket wears out, you should have that excellent tailor of yours copy them EXACTLY, that's how good it looks on you. Like another commenter, I would never have noticed the shoulder pads either. They really work for your proportions. Good job!
Love it!! Your tailor is always right ;-) Love her!
