Thank goodness Gossip Girl started showing new episodes again, because I was having some serious withdrawals.

Blair Waldorf is my fictional sartorial hero. Over the top prim and proper, dripping in pearls, lace, and purposed perfection. I love classic looks that are just a bit over the top, and if I had one fashion goal this year, it would be to incorporate that style better into my wardrobe.

So after a particularly captivating DVR’d episode of Gossip Girl, I looked down at my faded jeans and boring cardigan, and felt a sudden urge to put on a skirt…and some lace…and some pearls…

Thank you Blair Waldorf (or should I say Eric Daman for styling, and the beautiful Leighton Meester for wearing it so well) for busting me out of my jeans and into something a little more fun. Looking at these photos now, I think I could have done better…but I’ll leave that for another day.

Now to get the boyfriend to start dressing like Chuck Bass again (he had his own moment last year…gosh I miss those days.)…

You look wonderful! You also managed to give it something of your own stye too.
My fashion and style inspiration is always Coco Chanel so I especially love how you wear your necklaces, the neckline and slim cardigan.
The short skirt makes you look taller too.

i love this outfit and you're making me think i need to start watching Gossip Girl, even if it's just for the fashion! the necklace is perfect with this look and the cardigan is so pretty!

Oh adorable!!! I'm so behind on Gossip Girl, but I could watch that show over and over again! Sigh…I think I still need the weather to be nicer to break me out of wearing my jeans!

Any pics of the BF and his Chuck Bass moments? You guys should do a photoshoot TOGETHER!!!

I love how you dress up and wear skirts and lace and pearls! Very Blair Waldorf minus the headband (since that's how long it's been since I've watched Gossip Girl!) Plus, I'm looking down and seeing a leggings and tank top moment but I.am.just.so.comfortable. I'm inspired!

OK, so I had an old person moment when I read your title and went "who is Blair Waldorf?". I've never seen Gossip Girl, but I sort of get the reference because I read enough on the internet.

I love this outfit, it's the sort of thing I would wear.

As for my own inspiration, I have my fleeting moment fly-by-night flings with something I see once and fall in love with, and then I have my old standbys. I will always return to my Emma Pillsbury influenced styles, particularly on Wednesdays after watching Glee the night before (I have not yet watched last night's special episode so I did not dress very Emma today).

I also regularly haul my entire collection of J.Crew catalogs into my closet to try and recreate looks. I love how they style things in there even though they are not always petite friendly looks.

But lately I've been drawn to really bizarre things like the costumes worn by both Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn in seasons 1 and 2 of The Tudors (I DVRd them and am slowly making my way through the series).

Or I'll be watching a movie and see an outfit or a character and I'll obsess over the clothing for a week or two until I either break down and make something or go shop my closet (or a thrift store) to try and recreate the look. It's bad, I know.

Ahh, love this look! Totally Blair, perhaps a more grown up version minus the headband, but Blair nevertheless. Great inspired look!

I love this outfit Kelly, so classic yet Blair Waldorf esque. I really love her style on the show and sometimes watch Gossip Girl just for the style. I really like Serena's style too. I love the skirt with the rest of the outfit. I'm in a rut because I always wear jeans too and now want to go for a skirt:) I would say that my fashion inspiration is Lauren Conrad. I really love her effortlessly polished look and she isn't that much older than me so I would actually wear a lot of her clothes (her book is amazing too by the way). I also love Olivia Palermo's pretty and polished look (I watch wayyy too much reality T.V. lol).

@couturecoco – Oh…Chanel is one of my fashion icons too. Black, white, pearls, and a touch of red makes me feel so Coco. =)

@Trish – I hear ya. The cold mornings DO NOT make me want to get dressed, hence my faded jeans and boring cardigan before watching GG. LOL.

@DSK Steph – Chuck's wardrobe is amazing! The BF picked up a love of purple a la Chuck Bass. Now we quote Chuck's line, "Why do you wear so much purple?" all the time.

@curls-and-pearls – I can watch GG episodes all day long too. Love it! Hmm…I'll look for some photos of the BF looking Chuck Bass dapper, but he's very, very blog shy, so no promises. =P

@Petite Mom – Hehe…it's so easy to fall into a comfortable clothing rut, but it felt very nice to walk out of the house in this ensemble. It was totally worth changing out of my comfy jeans.

    @Anonymous – Thanks Bonnie! =)

@littlenashua – I just can't seem to sit down and watch a full episode of Glee…I don't know what it is, but it just doesn't do it for me. But I do enjoy seeing photos of Emma Pilsbury outfits all over the place. I've been loving your EP inspired outfits on your blog too! I may have to dig a little deeper into that character because she seems right up my alley. =)

@AubreyOhDang! – I hate to say it b/c my impression of him is that he's just not a nice person…but I love the way he dresses! He's very Patrick Bateman from American Psycho (one of my all time fav. movies). =P

@fashionforteens – Totally agree with Olivia Palermo. She has a great sense of style!

Love it! I especially love your cardigan!

I do not have a famous fashion inspiration currently. My body inspiration is AnnaLynne McCord from 90210. She has an amazing body! I do sit-ups and weight-lifting (5 lbs…woo!!!) while I watch the show! Lol!!

I really like Kate Hudson and Reese Witherspoon as style icons. They're both classic, and Kate Hudson can pull off boho-chic so well.

Such a cute outfit! Blair's definitely my fashion hero, even if my taste isn't even remotely similar to hers. Love it, though.

You inspired me to go catch up on my Gossip Girl episodes! I wore my 'other' wool bell skirt in henna this weekend and I'm really glad I decided to keep it! Goes really well with brown tights and I'm enjoying the smaller, higher waist (unlike 80% of the skirts in my closet). I love your lace cardi too btw!

I love the elegance of this outfit! You can never go wrong with lace and pearls. I'm a big fan of Emma Pillsbury from Glee and Betty Draper from Mad Men though I can't say that I channel them very well – it's more that I admire them and would like to someday capture their style :)

I just adore this whole look. The lace paneling on the cardigan is such a fantastic detail, and I love the jolt of red in your shoes. So chic and classy!

Kelly, that outfit is so cute on you! My current inspiration is comfort. I'm so lazy these days since school started.
