I love blazers of all shapes and styles, but there is one silhouette I continuously go back to again and again for its ultra-flattering shape. It’s called a “cutaway hem” and it creates a flattering “X” on the body. If you’re petite, it also helps to keep you looking lengthened.
The way it works is this…
- The blazer sweeps back toward the hips from the waist down.
- This creates an “X” shape on the torso with the waist at the middle, visually creating an ultra-flattering hourglass silhouette.
- Because the bottom of the blazer sweeps back, your leg-line remains visible, which helps visually lengthen your body.
My current favorite “X” shape blazer is the Theory Etiennette (some stores have it as “Etienette”) which I’m wearing in this post. The cut runs narrow in the shoulder, fitted and short in the sleeve, and has that perfect cutaway hem. Size 00 fits me really well right off the rack, so I’ve picked it up in four colors! As always, here are my measurements for reference.
