Over-Dressed

Outfit-4
Theory “Vern” blazer, size 00 | Ann Taylor petal front shell, size xxsp | Paige Blue Heights jeans (hemmed), size 23 | Ann Taylor Factory belt, size xs | Jewelry – pearl necklace, jet necklace, pearl brooch, sterling silver ball bracelet

This is me at the beach..the beach! I know, I know…way over-dressed right? In all fairness, I thought we were going to more of a country club kind of thing. Hence the seersucker. There’s even a pair of patent leather, wine colored heels that really completes this whole outfit that I had to take off. Ridiculous, I know…

The boyfriend’s office was getting off early to compete in a competitive bocce ball tournament (they had hats made specially for the occasion), and when I heard it was going to be at a beach and tennis club…I immediately thought “county-club” and got dressed for the occasion. Seersucker…check. Pearls…check.

Used my own advice & found a new cute color pairing for this jacket. Blue + purple = analogous!

The boyfriend came to pick me up, and as he changed into shorts, tells me, “You know, it’s at the beach…”

But, surely a fancy, country club-esque beach, right? And besides I was already dressed and fresh out of ideas for dressing down. I tossed my Rainbows into my bag and off we went.

Poor water-logged Sperry’s

We drank Corona’s, ate burgers, and ran away shrieking as the tide quickly washed away the bocce ball courts (and the boyfriend’s Sperry’s).

Then we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

I can get used to these San Diego summers…  :)

Lol!  Better to be over than under-dressed!!

I really enjoyed this post…it is always fun to get a peek into the more personal lives of bloggers! :)  Love the couple shot!! Glad you guys had a fun time!

    1. So true! I did get some compliments on my outfit that day, so I guess it was ok to be a bit over-dressed. :P

Glad you like the photos! I’ll try to bring my camera more places from now on. It’s just so bulky that someones I conveniently “forget” to bring it along.

Awww the couple picture is toooo tooo cute. :)

And I adore your outfit, it’s perhaps a little prone to getting dirty on the beach but I love all the elements you incorporated into the outfit!

Oh hey I’m from La Jolla area too!
Haha I’m really glad your red pumps didn’t get ruined! I got nervous when I read that… I know you love them so. ;]
I like your jeans folded up a bit for a change! Really cute!

    1. Hi Stacey! OMG, La Jolla is so incredibly beautiful, isn’t it? Every time I drive through there I think about how incredibly lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place. :)

I wore the red shoes up until the sand, and then slipped into my trusty Rainbows. Don’t worry, the red heels are just fine. Hehe.

    1. Thanks Jen! I handed my camera over to one of bf’s co-workers for that shot, and he was super impressed with the shots he took. I’m pretty sure he thinks he’s a professional photog now. :D

  5. Sounds like you had a great time!  Don’t know what the temperature is like where you are, but I can’t wear denim (even light weight denim) this time of year.  But then again, July=heat wave time in Toronto…

    1. Thanks Cynthia! Southern California beach weather rarely gets SUPER hot. We’re in the mid 70’s to 80’s for most of the year, so I was pretty comfortable in my jeans as the sun was setting and the ocean breezes got chilly.

How’s that Toronto heat wave treating ya? ;)

Where on earth did you find sz 23 jeans? I have a friend who’s in need of tiny pants (she’s 4’8, you see – super petite).

    1. Hi Ann! Size 23 jeans pop up every now and then, but are a pretty rare find as I’m sure you can see! These are Paige (my favorite brand), which can be found in size 23, like here:

      http://www.paigeusa.com/store/productslist.aspx?categoryid=218&sizef=23

I bought these at the Paige boutique in Los Angeles.

If your petite friend is also very slim with pretty narrow hips, a lot of super petite ladies have luck with designer kid’s jeans. Brands like Rock & Republic and Seven for All Mankind have nearly identical styles in kids sizes to their adult counterparts that run slimmer and shorter. I personally don’t like them because the rise tends to be higher (I need a really low rise) and my hips are too curvy to fit the straighter hip and waist. I also don’t particularly like shopping in the kids department if I can help it. Not sure if your friend feels the same, but I thought I’d throw that option out there.

      Good luck!

that actually looks really pretty…much nicer than any country club. as much as i love living in nyc, we don’t get sunsets like those on the west coast…
