This is me at the beach..the beach! I know, I know…way over-dressed right? In all fairness, I thought we were going to more of a country club kind of thing. Hence the seersucker. There’s even a pair of patent leather, wine colored heels that really completes this whole outfit that I had to take off. Ridiculous, I know…
The boyfriend’s office was getting off early to compete in a competitive bocce ball tournament (they had hats made specially for the occasion), and when I heard it was going to be at a beach and tennis club…I immediately thought “county-club” and got dressed for the occasion. Seersucker…check. Pearls…check.
The boyfriend came to pick me up, and as he changed into shorts, tells me, “You know, it’s at the beach…”
But, surely a fancy, country club-esque beach, right? And besides I was already dressed and fresh out of ideas for dressing down. I tossed my Rainbows into my bag and off we went.
We drank Corona’s, ate burgers, and ran away shrieking as the tide quickly washed away the bocce ball courts (and the boyfriend’s Sperry’s).
Then we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
I can get used to these San Diego summers… :)

Huzzah for Rainbows and boat shoes! Love that picture of you and your boyfriend!
Thanks! The bf’s poor boat shoes are still full of sand a few days later! :)
You look gorgeous! And I love that picture of you and your bf! Very romantic ;)
Thank you Wendy!! I love those back-lit sunset shots so was super excited to get one with the boyfriend. Absolutely perfect, romantic sunset that day!
Lol! Better to be over than under-dressed!!
I really enjoyed this post…it is always fun to get a peek into the more personal lives of bloggers! :) Love the couple shot!! Glad you guys had a fun time!
So true! I did get some compliments on my outfit that day, so I guess it was ok to be a bit over-dressed. :P
Glad you like the photos! I’ll try to bring my camera more places from now on. It’s just so bulky that someones I conveniently “forget” to bring it along.
The couple shot is adorable. :)
Thanks! We don’t take many “couple shots”, so this one was fun to do (I love back-lit shots like this!). :)
Nothing wrong with a little seersucker and pearls at the beach!
I like the way you think. ;)
There is no such thing as being overdressed. Everyone else is just underdressed. :) BTW, you look fabulous!
awe, love the pics, Kelly! I agree that you look absolutely fabulous. Everything about that outfit is perfect, beach or no beach :)
LOOOOOOVE the couple shot!! And LOL – that’s happened to me before too :P and husband wonders why it takes me so long to plan an outfit and pack when we travel LOL! You look beautiful!!!
Awww the couple picture is toooo tooo cute. :)
And I adore your outfit, it’s perhaps a little prone to getting dirty on the beach but I love all the elements you incorporated into the outfit!
Love this post and outfit – both rock!
Love those pictures, Kelly (especially the couple shot) ..LOL…The first pic is so gorgeous with the beach in the background. Sounds like you had a great time with your love =)
Oh hey I’m from La Jolla area too!
Haha I’m really glad your red pumps didn’t get ruined! I got nervous when I read that… I know you love them so. ;]
I like your jeans folded up a bit for a change! Really cute!
Hi Stacey! OMG, La Jolla is so incredibly beautiful, isn’t it? Every time I drive through there I think about how incredibly lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place. :)
I wore the red shoes up until the sand, and then slipped into my trusty Rainbows. Don’t worry, the red heels are just fine. Hehe.
awww I love the couples shot so much! the lighting on it is perfect. :D
Thanks Jen! I handed my camera over to one of bf’s co-workers for that shot, and he was super impressed with the shots he took. I’m pretty sure he thinks he’s a professional photog now. :D
you look very summer!! and you have your flip flops which is very casual and perfect for the beach! Bravo!
Sounds like you had a great time! Don’t know what the temperature is like where you are, but I can’t wear denim (even light weight denim) this time of year. But then again, July=heat wave time in Toronto…
Thanks Cynthia! Southern California beach weather rarely gets SUPER hot. We’re in the mid 70’s to 80’s for most of the year, so I was pretty comfortable in my jeans as the sun was setting and the ocean breezes got chilly.
How’s that Toronto heat wave treating ya? ;)
my motto: always better to be overdressed than underdressed.
Amen sister!
Where on earth did you find sz 23 jeans? I have a friend who’s in need of tiny pants (she’s 4’8, you see – super petite).
Hi Ann! Size 23 jeans pop up every now and then, but are a pretty rare find as I’m sure you can see! These are Paige (my favorite brand), which can be found in size 23, like here:
http://www.paigeusa.com/store/productslist.aspx?categoryid=218&sizef=23
I bought these at the Paige boutique in Los Angeles.
If your petite friend is also very slim with pretty narrow hips, a lot of super petite ladies have luck with designer kid’s jeans. Brands like Rock & Republic and Seven for All Mankind have nearly identical styles in kids sizes to their adult counterparts that run slimmer and shorter. I personally don’t like them because the rise tends to be higher (I need a really low rise) and my hips are too curvy to fit the straighter hip and waist. I also don’t particularly like shopping in the kids department if I can help it. Not sure if your friend feels the same, but I thought I’d throw that option out there.
Good luck!
Lovee that outfit! The couple picture is soo cute!
that actually looks really pretty…much nicer than any country club. as much as i love living in nyc, we don’t get sunsets like those on the west coast…
@maddy – agreed. you guys look adorable.
I love the blazer and cropped jeans :)
