Blue Hues & Givenchy

There was one more stow-away in my luggage from New York. Every summer, I curse at myself for not buying a decent pair of sandals. My favorite shoes are all closed-toe pumps and my feet suffer from heat stroke every year like clock-work. I just don’t find sandals as interesting as pumps, until these babies came along.

These Givenchy sandals are black suede with gold hardware and a shark tooth ankle-strap latch. The perfect amount of my typical loves (suede and hardware) and tough details.

Random fact – I learned the proper way to say Givenchy from an episode of The Hills. It’s pronounced jhee-von-shee, and not giv-en-chee as my American tongue lead me to believe. Thanks MTV!

I ended up ordering and preferring another size from Net-a-Porter, so there will be a size 35 of these released back into the wild of the Barney’s shoe department soon. Any interested parties can contact me for return info.

    1. Thanks Amber! I added pads to the ball-of-foot area on the shoe, and it’s made them pretty comfy. I haven’t worn them for an extended walking distance yet though. My main concern with open toe shoes like this is always that my foot will slide forward and my toes will hang off the front, which I hate! So far, it’s looking like I’ll be okay. The footbed was already pretty padded, which is nice. Everyone I know who isn’t a “omg fashun” type says it like giv-en-chee, so I’m sure it’s pretty normal. But it doesn’t hurt knowing the proper way, if only to avoid being scolded by snooty SA’s. =P

Hi there, just came across your blog as i was looking for these sandals. btw, they look amazing on you. i’m interested in getting myself a pair, please advise if they fit normally or if they tend to run large. I have very narrow feet and am normally a 36.5, but depending on the shoe can size down to 36. Would appreciate your thoughts…

        1. Hi Lumidee. They are so gorgeous! You’ll love them! We probably have a similar shoe fit. I also have narrow feet, and usually wear a size 35, but take a 1/2 size down quite often depending on fit. I took a 1/2 size down in these. My normal size fit okay, but when I tried on one 1/2 size smaller, the shoe moulded better to my feet and the size 35 felt floppy by comparison. If you can, I’d try on both size 36.5 and 36 to be sure, but my guess if you’ll find size 36 to be a little more comfy. Enjoy! =)

    1. The jacket is a boy’s size, so it fit’s smaller in the shoulder and sleeves. It could stand to get slimmed, but I haven’t yet. It’s been nice wearing it slouchy for now. The shirt is blousy (as most silks are), but I found the shoulder of this color to run small, so it fits me better than normal. I also tried the white with black trim version, and it ran a little bit bigger in the same size. So, no, neither of the J.Crew items have been altered. =)

I’d love to see you wear those sandals with a short little black skirt. I think they deserve to have more focus on them than the jeans permit!

Very cute shoes! I like how the silhouette is quite minimalistic, but the gold details add something! Haha, I totally did not know how to say Miu Miu until a friend corrected me recently. xD For some reason, I very rarely hear designer names spoken aloud, so I’m guessing in my current pronunciation of a ton of things, I’m sure. xD

I love this combination—it reminds me of “pajama dressing”, which was huge a while back. I’m also loving that Valentino bag!

Love the shoes! I’m jealous – ankle straps almost always make me look dowdy and short (I’m not petite – 5’6″ here!), so I find I just stay away from them completely. These are gorgeous on you! Also I love that blouse. Those loose fit shirts are going to be a staple this spring.

Those shoes are gorgeous, I am impressed that the ankle strap doesn’t make you look shorter, I am 5’2″ (almost) and ankle straps almost always make me look shorter–do you gave a magic secret?? I, too love the strap detail.

    1. Thanks Michelle! I haven’t played with these and skirts too much, but I’m expecting to come into problems with looking shorter. I like these with jeans because the line of the jeans kind of jumbles the dividing line from the ankle strap so it looks like a smoother silhouette.

LOL, I had a similar experience with regards to learning how to say Givenchy properly, but I think I learned it from an episode of Top Model haha! I learned how to pronounce Hermes from a tv show too. Who says reality television isn’t valuable?

Those shoes are amazing, by the way! Looking forward to seeing you wear them in many more outfits!
