Crisp White & Navy

bow-tie-4-600

In honor of the upcoming first day of summer (this Friday!), here’s one of my favorite summer pairings of all time…white jeans with a navy blazer. It’s so crisp and clean feeling. My only fear is looking like a parody of someone who just hopped off a scooner. But then again, sometimes that’s exactly the look I’m gunning for.

Enjoy the last few days of spring…summer is a-comin’! =)

Kelly! you are seriously getting too boring… your outfits all look the same. please be more creative/inspiring to keep your fans? thanks!

    1. You’re right. I do wear the same thing, which is a style I’ve actually strived to achieve over the years. I’ve always been a fan of smaller and heavily cohesive wardrobes, with higher emphasis on fabrics and details, and as I’ve gotten older, that’s what I’ve been whittling my wardrobe down to be. Some people need to pull a different person from their closets everyday, and some people like to pull their own personal uniform out of their closets every day. I’m the latter. It’s not for everybody, and that’s okay.

There are so many fabulous bloggers on the web who love to look different every day, and I have no doubt you’ll find bloggers that are much better suited to your taste with a quick dive down the blogger hole (I suggest you take a look on the Bloglovin’ popular page…amazing style on there!). Best of luck!

I personally don’t find your style boring at all. I am the former – some days very girly, some days sporty, and other days wearing menswear. I love watching your closet grow and take on a personality. Keep it up!

love this! navy and white, it’s like you did this just for me! i didn’t even realize you had a bow tie hanging around your neck. but i really like it!

    1. Thank you Michelle! I’ve been trying to get that bow tie in there somewhere, but my town is very “flip-flops and board shorts”, so I always feel weird wearing it out and about. The blazer covered it up enough to help me ease into wearing it. My new motto is, “when gaining the courage to wear something…put a blazer on it!” =)

why does everyone in san diego think that flip-flops are appropriate all the time? i always get strange looks when i am dressed up. my whole office is wearing flip-flops and shorts today, and i’m in a skirt.

you have such a unique and classic style! I love that you don’t overload on the trends and even when you do, it goes with the rest of your style. That’s something I aspire to do :) I also need to find the perfect pair of white jeans *sigh*

Kelly, can I ask what size you’re wearing in these jeans? I’m thinking of giving these a try but will have to order online (can’t find them in nearby stores). Thanks!

    1. Of course! These are size 24, and have been hemmed, as well as the ankle slimmed (only because the hem removed the narrowest part of the ankle, and I wanted that same fit again). These are last year’s version, but reviews on Shopbop seem to agree with last years’s sizing, which is that they run a bit small. Hope that helps!

Kelly! Just want to give you an update. It took me awhile, but I finally figured out that sz 26 works best on me. They’re tighter than the jeans I normally wear, but these are called skinnies for a reason ;) The hem is a bit long on me too so I’m just rolling them up. I like the look, so I don’t know if I’ll ever get them tailored. Thank you for introducing these jeans to me!

  5. weird that someone would comment for you to be more interesting with your style. um, no. that’s your style. so odd. i love looking at your outfits, especially the little details. and your skin looks perfect here, maybe its just my monitor?

    1. Thanks Amber! My skin isn’t all that great, it’s really the magic of good lighting and a nice camera lens. The 85mm f/1.8 gives great skin-tones. =)

Re the comment, everyone has an opinion…lol. As people who put photos of ourselves on the internet for public consumption and judgement, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some people will dislike us or find us boring. =P

Hmm just saw the comment you’re talking about. Also to comment with “prior fan” as the name? weird!! I love that you stick to YOUR style – isn’t that what REAL people do? And I follow real people on blogs for real life inspiration not something a stylist for a magazine put together that is completely unrealistic! Sure, tutus are cute but when can one ACTUALLY wear one? LOL!

I have been following your blog for a few months and I really appreciate how much thought you put into your look and your style – you have a very unique classic style and I love all your little tips. I am a similar size petite to yourself and was wondering what your thoughts are on round toe heels – I notice that most of your heels are pointy. Is there a reason you don’t gravitate towards round toes?

    1. Hi OzGal! Thank you! Personally, I feel very, perfectly round toe heels look a little junior, and while I owned a few during and fresh-outta college, I graduated to almond toe heels soon after. If you’re looking for good, not overly trendy, but fashion forward heels…almond toe is the way to go. I did almond toe exclusively for a while, and only prefer pointy-toe right now because they’re different and a little more on trend. But my almond toe shoes are patiently waiting for pointy-toe to loose their luster so I can go back to them. =)

I love almond toes too :) I guess that’s more what I was referring to as opposed to perfectly round – appreciate the feedback!

I have been wearing white jeans non stop and love pairing it with any shades of blue so I love this outfit! Btw, thanks SO much for the sales alert of that J.Crew necklace–I bought it over the weekend and will def. be mentioning it on my weekend snapshots;)

Another great outfit, Kelly! It makes me want to get a lilac shirt to give my navy and white pairings a little boost! I can’t believe the comment below. I love your classic style and how you are able to subtly incorporate some trends into it, making it modern, but still keeping true to yourself. That doesn’t mean that I cannot follow other blogs for more casual looks/evening looks/etc. Some of the other bloggers I think revolve their entire dressing experience around trying to put together a completely different look every day, which is unrealistic for most of us. You show us what you are actually wearing to work, on the weekend, etc. and not just parading around downtown in an evening dress, just to show us a different look–not that playing dress-up just for the camera/viewers is necessarily bad. It’s just that most of us have a lot more narrow style window than what is shown in magazines and on some of the other blogs, and there is nothing wrong with that!

    1. Hi Jane. Not at all! Whatever looks best on your figure is never out of date, and a lot of women look amazing in bootcut jeans. Skinny jeans are having a big moment because there is so much throw-back love to the 80’s and 90’s in fashion right now. Because the skinny silhouette is so popular right now, I think bootcuts looks better up to date with a slimmer bottom flare, but ultimately, it’s whatever shape looks best on you. =)

Boy’s blazer? Brilliant idea! I was just lamenting the other day when I realized the 00 schoolboy blazer from J Crew was still so loose (not that I mind an oversized blazer now and again) but I’l definitely going to try this.
