Ann Taylor and LOFT Friends and Family Sale packages have arrived! I want to get these reviews up quick while there are still small sizes available in case anyone is interested, so I’ll start with Ann Taylor today, and finish up with LOFT tomorrow.
First up…Ann Taylor:
Petite Silk Charmeuse Primitive Brushstroke Top in size P00:

Let me just say, I love slim fitting silks! This silk top has a side zipper, which is the smartest thing AT ever did. The side zipper means the top can be cut slimmer, while still making it possible to slip on, resulting in…a silk top that is not a huge tent (like some other silks I tried recently). This top drapes nicely, and surprisingly, isn’t a mile long like the other AT tops I tried on before. The cap sleeves are a bit poofy for my taste, but they’re growing on me, and the print is a bit busy, but I think could be really cool if styled correctly. I think I’m going to give this one a nice steaming (it’s a bit wrinkly from being shipped) and play with it a little bit, but I think I may have a keeper on my hands. Interested in this top? It also comes in a periwinkle blue.
More after the jump!
Petite Cowl Necked Draped Dress in size XXS:

This dress does nothing for my figure. I had high hopes for this dress because it came in the super tiny size extra-extra-small petite, and the rayon/spandex blend fabric made me think it would be stretchy and fitted. The first thing I noticed about this dress was how heavy it was! Lifting this thing was a bit shocking…who knew rayon weighed so much!? Aside from that, it’s not terribly fitted despite it’s super tiny tag size, and I felt the proportions were totally off. The sleeves were too wide, the cowl neck had too much fabric, the length was too long, and the waist drape seemed awkwardly placed (maybe it’s too low? I can’t quite put my finger on it). This one is going back for sure.
Tomorrow…a review of the LOFT pieces I picked up!
Fantastic find on the silk with side zip, and it's nice to see that both colors are left in 00P. Now a 40% off coupon would be nice : ) By the way, have you tried it on tucked into pants like the model is wearing it? I'm curious as to whether it's fitted enough to do that, or if it poofs out.
That dress … eeks. I wonder if they mis-labeled a regular as a petite! Pieces in sz XXSP in stretchy fabrics should never run so big! Boo at inconsistent sizing.
PAG – I've got some more picture taking to do tonight, so I'll steam the top and try tucking it in. =)
I really love that silk top! I've been eyeing it online wondering if it would fit. I would love to pick that up if they have another big sale before 00P sells out!
That top looks promising! I would definitely pick it up if there's another 40% coupon! I haven't shopped at Ann Taylor much but it seems like they definitely need to work on their XXS(P) dress sizing!
Excited to see your loft finds!
That silk top fits you perfectly- what a great find!!! What a total bummer about the dress….Ann Taylor dresses fit me weird- I'm not nearly as tiny as you are but the XXSP don't fit me like how I would want them to fit. Perhaps they should size it down??? :)
I like the poofy ;-) sleeves on you.
Interesting about the dress. The first thing I thought was how the colour really does not work for your skin tone. Perhaps its just the photo but if I'm correct it could save you loads of time in the future if you keep a cutting of that colour in your purse to remind you that its not one of your best. I keep colour swatches of my best and worst colours in my purse for just that reason. There is a beige colour which I seem programmed to reach for which washes me out terribly. Now I've learnt to double check it against my "no no" swatch.
Petite Style – Very good point. I've been interested in colors and skin tones for some time, and would love to learn more about that type of color theory. I do have mental notes about which shades/colors look good/bad on me…so I guess now I can add this one to the list! =)
