I’m often an anxious and shy person in social situations, but something about this sitting position calms me. I think it’s because this body language projects relaxed confidence, takes up space, and opens my shoulders. If I feel myself physically closing up, shrinking in the space I’m occupying, or struggling to do something with my hands, I’ll take a deep breath and adjust to this position. I may not feel calm and relaxed at that moment, but after a few minutes will usually start to feel more at ease and confident. A “fake it ‘til you make it” of sorts. Give it a try.
Of course, this works best in roomy situations where you’re not going to jab the people next to you with a pointy knee or dirty shoe 😂
