Holiday Dressing Without The Dress

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, it’s probably pretty evident that I very, very, rarely wear dresses. I personally find them boring, uncomfortable, and terribly chilly during most of the year. But thanks to societal norms and expectations, it took me a long time to come to the realization that even though I am a woman, there’s no reason to force myself into a garment I dislike just because that’s what’s expected of my gender. For this reason, I like to share pieces I’ve found as alternatives that are just as fun and festive.

During the Cyber Monday promos, I picked up this blazer from J.Crew and knew as soon as it arrived it would be the focal point of my holiday outfits this year. The subtle black watch tartan is fun, playful, and reminds me of the holidays. Its slick satin lapel is reminiscent of a tuxedo jacket. I find it compliments a black sheer silk tuxedo blouse beautifully, and then I like it dressed down with a pair of light wash distressed denim. Alternatively, it would be equally as good paired with some sequins, beading, or velvet, if this better tickles your festive dressing fancy. Or edge it up with leather pants/leggings perhaps?
