Black blazers…a wardrobe basic right up there with the little black dress. It can be dressed up, dressed down, worn over dresses…everything your little heart desires. Every brand and designer usually makes at least one, so you are at no dearth on choice when it comes to which one will make your closet its home. If you’re currently looking to add one to your wardrobe, or maybe looking to upgrade your old faded threadbare one, this J.Crew Campbell is my new current recommendation. The more I wear it, the more I love it…here’s why:
Availability in special sizes – Are you petite? Got ya covered. Tall? Got ya covered there too.
Fabric – I’m a very tactile person, so fabrics have always been important to me. Finding items in nice fabrics that also come in petite sizes is always a struggle, since cheaper mall brands are usually the only ones willing to delve into special sizes, and they’ve gotta meet those ever-lowering pricing demands. This blazer clocks in at 98% wool and feels nice to the touch.
Fit – Unlike the J.Crew Schoolboy blazer (which I love and have my fair share of), this one has a silhouette that is much friendlier to the female form. Where the Schoolboy was boxy, this one is long and lean, nipped at the waist for a super flattering fit.
Details – I love traditional, classic details, so for blazers, that means all the fun things the guys get, except whittled down for women. This blazer has all those things…notched lapels, fully functional side pockets, chest pocket, inside pocket, and sleeve cuff buttons. Personally, I love the preppy metal crested buttons, but they can be easily switched out if they’re not your style. Also, a bright pop of blue is hiding under the collar…who doesn’t love that?
Price point – $198 is nothing to scoff at, but it’s also not bad at all for a wool blazer with all the bells and whistles this one has. I’ve seen designer blazers for twice, nay thrice, this price made of cheaper fabrics and without half the details. Luckily, J.Crew also has plenty of promos, which will surely knock a bit off the price if you can hold out for a little while.
