Wearing Stripes with Plaid Comes Easy

Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing stripes with plaid comes easy.
– Albert Einstein (credited but unsourced)

After trying on countless long vests over the past few seasons, this one finally made the cut! Historically, long vests have either completely swamped me, or added width to my waist and hips throwing off my natural proportions. This vest, on the other hand, drapes perfectly in a medium weight wool blend, with a small plaid pattern (has light hints of blue running through it), and faux leather details at the pockets and under the collar. The only things that would make it more perfect would be a chest pocket (I do love stuffing my pocket squares in those), and real leather (but of course, then the price point would be less than perfect).

This vest comes with a self-tie which I like tied in back like a trench coat. It gives the vest a really nice shape, especially since it’s been smartly designed with an asymmetrical cut which tapers nicely away from the body.

A vest I almost kept was this amazing plaid, but the fabric was just too thick and bulky for my frame, however a beautiful option I would recommend to anyone with more height and presence than myself. And while I never got around to trying it, this Marissa Webb one (on sale!) was next on my radar.

This vest only underwent two pretty simple alterations which I’ll share in an upcoming post. =)

omg… those jeans… look so good on you!

I’m about your size.. Did you get those jeans altered?
    What size are you wearing?

Hi J! Thanks! These jeans have NOT been altered. I’m wearing size 24, which is one size up from my usual Rag & Bone jean size, so this style/wash runs small. The length is cropped which makes them a perfect length. Another style/wash that runs small and also has not needed altering on me is The Skinny in Preston wash.
