Merry Monday, everyone! Hope you had a great weekend full of Super Bowl shenanigans! Here’s what I wore on Saturday when the sun was shining and it was warm enough that I didn’t need a jacket (until later in the day, coincidentally when we took these photos, when it got chilly, quick…luckily you can’t tell I was gunning to run back in the car and crank the heat in these pics). And yay(!) to jeans with destroyed knees that actually hit my knees. A rare occurrence for the short-legged!
I’m a big fan of the idea of “the perfect “. The perfect shirt (which for me right now is the Banana Republic non-iron). The perfect jean (the Rag & Bone Preston is my current favorite). The perfect tee (still looking). Etc. It’s this idea that has intrigued me with Everlane and their emphasis on quality basics without the high markups.
It took me way too long to try Everlane, mostly because I knew their blouses weren’t going to fit me as well as petite offerings from mall brands…the same reason why I haven’t gone completely Equipment crazy despite their great silks. But now that my hands have touched Everlane’s soft silk crepe, I’m considering a slouch-renaissance for the silks in my closet. With a fit similar to the slimmer Equipment Brett blouse (Everlane is a tad wider in the torso, yet shorter in the sleeve and overall length), I’m quite impressed by both the quality and the price. Note that the Everlane rounded-collar shirt runs smaller than the pointed-collar shirt. I’m wearing the round-collar shirt in size xs.

I’ve been worried about ordering a shirt from them too because of sizing. I’m a petite, but I also wear a medium, so I often end up with big shoulders and long sleeves. Would you recommend this shirt for larger sizes?
Thanks!
Hi Alainai’!
I think you could probably wear the blouse better than I do! Of course, it’ll be long because you’re petite, but many people actually prefer oversized silks, so it’s a matter of preference. For reference, I took measurements of my round-collar blouse in size xs for you (note that the round-collar runs smaller than the point-collar…but the point-collar has a seam-less shoulder, which could be nice if you don’t like messing with the fit of shoulder seams.
Size XS Round-Collar Shirt Laying Flat:
Shoulder: 14.5″
Armpit to armpit: 19″
Sleeve: 23″
Length: 25″
Hope that helps! =)
Thank you so much for doing that! I will definitely be purchasing one sometime soon. I’ve been contemplating buying one for like a year now…
I do like my shirts longer because I’ve got a pretty short torso, so I need to the illusion. I’m 5’3″ too, so I’m on the upper end of petite.
Thanks again!
(I realized I spelled my name wrong! :P It’s actually Alaina.)
This post is so helpful, Kelly! I’ve been loving Rag&Bone denim lately and I’m on the hunt for some distressed jeans, those looks great. Plus, I’ve been intrigued by Everlane’s silk blouses but have been so concerned over the sleeves and overall length. I may go ahead and order one now!
Thank you, Cher! Since you’re taller than me, and leggy, I think these would fit you great! Also note that I haven’t hemmed these either, so the length is short-girl friendly as well. For reference, I’m wearing size 23 because the waist was a little better on me, but size 24 fit great in the legs on me also. =)
As for Everlane, if you like the fit of the Equipment Brett, then you should also like the fit the Everlane round-collar blouse. Just as with Equipment, I could use a smaller size, but it’s do-able on me as an over-sized slouchy blouse, especially for the price & silk quality!
Such a gorgeous silk blouse – and at a reasonable price! Love the fit on you, and how you’ve styled it. That belt is so cute as well!
Bold Subtlety
Thank you, Annick! =)
Kelly, love the whole look. That hat is perfect with those shirt and jeans. How did you find the sizing of the hat? I’ve only been able to find hats that can have padding added to the interior of the brim.
Thanks Amy! Rag & Bone hats are amazing because they come in 3 sizes (stores that sell R&B hats in one size are usually size medium). I’m wearing size small, which measures 21″ around on the inside, and the crown of this particular style is 4.5″ high, which is shorter than usual. Other Rag & Bone styles I’ve tried (and a lot of other brands) are 5″ high in the crown.
Thanks, Kelly. I think the small would actually fit my wee little head. Good to know.
When you find the “perfect” item, do you buy more than one? What are your thoughts on buying duplicate items? Love your blog! You helped inspire me to start one of my own. So far it is not nearly as good as your tho lol :-)
Hi! Yes, I have definitely been known to buy multiples of items I really like: http://www.alterationsneeded.com/2011/11/reader-request-to-hoard-or-not-to-hoard.html
Those jeans looks amazing on you, your legs go on for days. Love your style. Thanks for the inspiration!
Glad you liked the shirt, and you look amazing in those jeans, your legs don’t look short at all! x
