The Little Bra Company Slip Chemise and Babydoll for Small Bra Sizes (& a Giveaway)

An email I get over and over again (especially around the holidays and wedding season) is from petite readers who are looking for slips and lingerie for smaller band and bust sizes. Since most companies only go down to a size 32 band size, if they even go that small at all, finding cute underpinnings that actually fit for these sizes is challenging.

Personally, I think a decent slip or two are wardrobe foundations that every woman should have in case of emergency (emergencies being semi-sheer dresses, windy days, excessive clingyness, or itchiness, just to name a few). I have one sad-sack of a full slip that has come in handy, but I wouldn’t say I’m very happy with it, nor is it very attractive. It was bought out of necessity, the best one I could find at the time, and doesn’t fit well at all.

So when The Little Bra Company reached out to let me know they were adding petite slips and babydoll nighties to their line, I was really excited to check them out. Eager to find a better replacement for my slip, I asked TLBC if I could get a sample of their new slip chemise to play with, so let’s take a closer look, shall we?

(TLBC slip is being modeled on a petite dress form with the measurements: bust 30″ – waist 22″ – hip 31″)

The Little Bra Company slip chemise is built on the foundation of their popular Lucia bra, so it has the same push-up benefits and attractive lace look of the Lucia. You order the slip based on your Lucia TLBC size (I took a size 30C), and the rest of the slip stretches to fit for a silky layer between you and whatever you’re wearing. The short length hits me at the high thigh, which is short enough to stay concealed under any dress/skirt lengths I have. Bottom side slits (4″ in length) are lined in lace. Current colors offered are the basics of black and nude (a blush, lighter skin-tone shade).

I appreciate that the slip has a built-in bra, because the slip I currently own has no chest support, and has to be worn over a bra, adding to the number of garments to keep track of (and/or tack in place with garment tape in case of twisting and peeking above neck lines). I also like the plunging neckline, which makes it easier to wear under a variety of garments. If the lace peeks out of an especially wide-necked top, it’s easy to fold under and secure in place with some garment tape.

The straps are convertible and the back dips low for a variety of dress/top styles:

Details for the size 30C are:

  • Length (from bottom of the bra cups down): 18″
  • Fiber content: 88% polymide / 12% elastine
  • Care: hand wash & line dry

For comparison purposes, here is the department store bought slip I’ve been wearing. Pretty sad looking by comparison, right? I remember wearing this while putting on makeup before a friend’s wedding when Mr. AN looked over and said in a concerned voice, “you’re wearing that?” He was very relived when I explained it was going to be safely hidden under my dress. So not sexy…

I’m very, very happy to replace my baggy saggy slip with this TLBC version. The benefits of wearing attractive underpinnings is hugely beneficial to the psyche, and I feel much more confident knowing something attractive is hiding under my dress, and not the old granny-nighty I’ve been sporting in the past.

And for anyone looking for a cheeky nightie with a little oomph for special occasions (or just for fun), the Lucia Babydoll is a similar concept, but in a flirtier silhouette:
