Monochrome Tweed & Coated Denim

After a year of searching for the perfect pair of coated denim, I finally found them in these Citizens of Humanity Racer Leatherette Jeans. Wading through a slew of too thin, too high-waisted, too saggy, too baggy, these finally fit the bill. Soft but thick denim, snug fit, low rise, and real working front pockets which so many other pairs lacked. After getting them hemmed and slimming the ankle back to a snug fit, I’m really happy with how they turned out. I’m super tempted to get them in the burgundy as well. It’s such a luxe take on denim, which I think pairs quite nicely with the luxe take on a t-shirt, the tweed tee!

I’ve always loved hats but have a hard time finding ones that look decent on me. This style is great because it’s a more casual take on a fedora, so it doesn’t feel too styled or forced, and I love the small brim that doesn’t overwhelm. It’s soft and floppy, so it’s traveled on planes with me and been squished under the seat, only to spring right back to life when I need it to cover my terrible travel-hair. And I’m pretty sure I don’t look like a doofus in it, so that’s a plus. It also comes in olive.

    Gorgeous look! Love the color palette of greys and blacks – totally up my alley! I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect pair of black skinnies and I’m having the same issue as you – how hard is it to find black skinnies?! I recently acquired a pair of Old Navy coated denim in burgundy and love them! If you’re looking for a cheaper option, they’re actually quite nice. And they come in petite sizes as well! I’m not sure if the coating stays on after washing though as I haven’t washed them.

    Anyway, great look! This will definitely inspire a few looks in my future!

    1. They came much shinier when new, but I washed them once before tailoring (inside out, gentle cycle, air dry, so they would shrink before altering) and they mellowed out very nicely. I think they came over-waxed knowing a wash would make them perfect. The shot from the back is probably a good indication of how matte they are in real life. And the denim is so soft and nice feeling! The softness is one of the major sells for me since others I tried were stiff or scratchy. These feel luxurious on.

      1. Thank you for your feedback! I will try them out this weekend. Also, if you wouldn’t mind, giving your opinion on Citizens of Humanity vs. Jbrand jeans? I used to buy luxury jeans (Paige and Rock and Republic) VEERRRRRY long time ago, but always found that the high price point did not match up to the quality (i would always get rips in the inner seams). So I switched and just started buying Gap jeans and found them to last longer. But I’m getting tired of the contrast stitching on Gap jeans…it’s so…Gap-esque! Blech. But before I drop a pretty penny on designer jeans I am really doing my research this time around. I would appreciate any advice you might have. Thank you again!

    Kelly, I love this outfit on you. You look great; absolutely gorgeous (must be that newly-engaged-glow!!) The pants look great; I hem & slim my pants hems too… do you do it yourself?

        I NEED to find a good tailor around here… there’s got too be one. I have a huge stack on my kitchen table just waiting for me to dust off the old machine… (;

    1. Thanks Gigi! I really love it, although, do you remember 90’s rave kids and their pacifier necklaces? Sometimes I put the necklace on, look in the mirror, and that’s all I can see. It’s the ring that does it! LOL!

    Thanks for mentioning that you take in the ankle once they are hemmed, I never thought to do that. I always thought my skinny jeans didn’t fit like they should, now I know why.

    I like the outfits and emsemble. I just don’t like the girl wearing them.
    I wish she would do something about herself first.

    I had a question about a tweed tank I just bought from BR. I really like it, but I’m not sure what to wear it with besides a black blazer. Have you found different ways to wear your tweed tee?
