Review: Urban Outfitters Pins and Needles Eyelet Dress

When I picked up the Kimchi Blue knit jacket from this post, I needed to buy a few more things in order to get free shipping. Jen at From Head to Toe kept mentioning a little eyelet dress, and how it fit her perfectly in size 0.

I know Jen is smaller than me, and I thought about getting a size 2 in this dress, but I’ve never been able to size up before, so it was hard for me to believe I wouldn’t fit in a size 0. I ordered the size zero, thinking, “it’ll probably be a tight fit, but it should be fine”.

Dress: Pins and Needles Eyelet Dress, size 0 (here on sale!)
Shoes: Cole Haan Genevieve Open Toe Pump, size 5 (similar)

Adorable right? Oh…wait…

Yup, that’s as far as I can zip this baby up without ripping right out of this dress like the Incredible Hulk.

That’s right super tiny petites. If you look at my clothing finds and think, “Sure…looks great…but that’s still too big for me”, well, here’s one for ya.

awww! and it's such a cute dress… are you thinking of trying on the size 2 and seeing if it fits?

I'm really tempted to check out a size 4 (while super short, I'm pretty curvy) – do you think the larger sizes are longer?

Wow! That's super duper tiny! Adorable dress though. I can see it with a funky bracelet or dangly earrings or with a cardigan layered over top.

Wow, it's so cute on you though, maybe exchange it for a 2? I almost got this dress when I was on UO earlier this week thanks to your last post but I am happy I passed…

LOL I Can't believe you can't zip it up! That's a first! It would probably not make it past my butt ;)

Ok, well besides the obvious, that dress is adorable on you!

LOL! I guess that just goes to show you how tiny I am. ._.

    BUT I CAN'T WAIT TO BUY IT FROM YOU!! :D :D :D

This was probably why when I bought the white one in stores it was hanging on the rack at $15 until I snatched it up.

I hate when that happens! I always feel huge (which I sooo am not haha). It looked so good on you from the front though :(

lia – I'm not even sure if a size 2 would fit! I might be a 4! Usually the bigger sizes do have some more length to them, so I'll go out on a limb and say the larger size should be longer as well. I don't think I'm going to order it again. It's really cute, but not really my style, so I don't think I'd get much wear out of it. But it's comfy, and fully lined!

    curls-and-pearls – I can't believe I can't zip it either! I've never had this happen before, I was a little perplexed. =P

Jen – I grossly under-estimated just how tiny you are. LOL.

R.L. – The dress is super cute, but not quite my style. I tried it more because I kept hearing how tiny it was. If it's your style, I'd say go for it! It's comfy, well constructed, and fully lined.

The dress is very cute, but too bad about the sizing! That's how I felt when I put on a Henrietta strapelsss in sz 0 lol.

I was hesitant to order this dress because the reviews showed huge inconsistency in sizing. Reading through them there is a general cosnensus that the black runs smaller than the white. If you ordered a second one, I'm not so sure you would fit a 2…look at this:
"The fit is awesome (I happen to be 5'1" and about 100lbs and I bought a size 0)" and "i got size 2—for reference my measurements are 34b—110lbs—-5'4"

…reviews like that totally threw me off! Would I need a 0…or 2…or 4? One girl said she ordered five of the same dress and only one fit right.

Oh wow….that's so funny! I'm looking at the pictures thinking, what a perfect fit for her…she looks so great in this dress. Then I scroll down one more pic and Shock! It's hard to judge what size you're going to need when the company's sizings are so inconsistent.

I was eyeing that dress in white but it too far from my style. I love how it looks on you and Jen! It's shocking how small the sizing is…how can you not fit in a 0?

  11. says: PetiteXXS

I kind of regretted not getting it in the white when they were still available (wasn't in a buying mood then)… and I guess Jen already called dibs on taking this one off your hands :P Who knows, maybe I wouldn't have fit into the size 0 either!

I absolutely love this dress! :) Can't believe it's too small for you. The 0 might even be a tad too big for me, but the black is totally my style! Too bad they are sold out online already.

I tried on the dress in white in the store. It must have been a little bigger in white because I zipped up, but only after I sucked in and pulled hard on the zipper. UO dress zippers tend to kink around the waistline, where your zipper stops, so I thought I wasn't pulling at the correct angle. After the kink, the zipper went straight up, but it was definitely not comfortable.

i tried this in white in size 2 today and surprisingly, it wasn't snug on me – it was actually roomy around the chest. I'm 5'3" and 98 lbs and definitely bigger than you. I wonder if the one i tried on runs big…

PAG – I didn't even look at the reviews…from the sound of the online reviews, and experiences of some commenters, it seems the black runs smaller than the white. Very strange.

deborah & eunice – Looks like the white runs bigger than the black, b/c there was no way this dress was zipping up on me. LOL.

Note to all the super tiny petites…try the black!

I was reading the reviews for this dress and the sizing was really inconsistent. Apparently, the black one runs smaller than the white.

haha I love your attitude though! I'm stubborn like that too…if I were in your position, I would've done the same and went ahead with the 0 because I wouldn't be able to believe that I wouldn't fit in it. :P According to your measurements though, I think I might be able to fit the size 0 you have! I'm a bit smaller than you.

I'm a fan of little black dresses!! I'm starting a collection..I just might check this out. ^_^

Wow..this dress sure is super tiny! It's rarely to see you in something "too small" :) It's a very cute dress and good buy (especially it's 100% lined). I usually don't read online reviews but I might start doing so and hopefully they're somewhat accurate

  18. says: Really Petite

As tiny as you are and you can't zip up the dress, I don't know how other petites would fit into this size!

Super cute and I agree with PLG- it is so rare to see you in something that is "too small"! :)

AubreyOhDang! – I'm not sure. This is the first Pins and Needles garment I've ever tried. I just took a look at some reviews of other P&N items on the UO site, and it looks like the sizing is inconsistent b/c some of the girls wearing size XS/0 are not very petite. This dress might just be a fluke.

That dress looks perfect on you from the front. It suits your frame perfectly. Seriously, you should totally get it in your size. You can always throw a cardigan on if you're feeling too bare. It's just adorable on you.

  21. says: Tam

I must have gotten a fluke because I bought a size 2, and it fits perfectly and I'm 5'4 and 116 pounds!

I actually got up and tried it on again right now because I couldn't believe it wouldn't fit you.

  22. says: GRITS

Wow! Maybe that's why I could fit mine (I have it in white). I will try to put a pic up in the forum for comparison…
