Adventures in Alterations: Tips on Finding a Tailor from The Demoiselles

Fashion blog, The Demoiselles, has a great series on finding and going to a tailor. It’s always surprising how many women (and men for that matter) have never been to a tailor, or even considered tailoring as an option! I love spreading the word about tailoring, and love seeing other people doing it too! Thanks for the great posts The Demoiselles!

Hey. I was doing some online looking for petite stuff and saw some slim boyfriend jeans at Loft in size 24P. Do you think they would be small enough for a petite woman? I am not familar with sizing in 24, 25, etc. I am only used to seeing 00P, 0P, 2P.
There is also a cute shell in xxsP in deep blue…it is a sleeveless floral. I would love your opinon before I order and spend money on shipping. I respect your thoughts by just looking at the make of the garments and your experience in trying a million things on…lol!
    Thanks

    Hi petite shopper in texas!
I actually like the lean boyfriend jeans from Loft…these one's right?

    LOFT Petite Lean Boyfriend Jeans

I've tried size 24 denim from LOFT before and remember it being a tiny bit big, but because these are boyfriend jeans, they're meant to fit baggy! Even if the waist is a little big, just throw a belt on, and problem solved! If you're looking to try the boyfriend jean style, I'd def. give these a try. I like that they say "lean", because that means there's less fabric flapping around, and they'll be a more fitted silhouette.

The blue floral shell is this one right?

    LOFT Petite Print Ruffle Shell

Because the fabric content is cotton and silk, I can pretty much guarantee this top will be pretty baggy. I've tried the Pxxs in this fabric before, and they've always needed to be taken in quite a bit by a tailor. If you're handy with a sewing machine, or don't mind taking it to a tailor, then you can pick it up. Otherwise, I'd pass, or wait to see if you can pick it up with a serious discount to off-set the cost of alterations.

    Hope that helps! Happy shopping!

Thank you. You are so helpful. I think I will give the jeans a try and pass on the shell unless I can find it in the store to try on.
