In Memoriam: Banana Republic Petite Size 000

I reported a while back on size petite 000 showing up on the Banana Republic Fit Guide on bananarepublic.com, as did Cynthia over at Shorty Stories, but never saw any size 000 materialize on the website (I was checking religiously). I had my fingers crossed because Banana Republic has great work separates and suiting, and the idea of tiny dress pants had me VERY excited.

For the record, Banana Republic size 00 petite is still a bit big on me, especially in any other fit besides the Ryan (which is mysteriously not being offered very often any more…hhmmm…Banana, are you listening?)

Well, I called Banana Republic customer service to find out what was going on. Brace yourselves for bad news ladies…the 000 has been discontinued.

I didn’t even know it was ever available! Apparently it was offered in very small numbers and sent to a couple of stores. Banana Republic decided the size was not the direction it wanted to take, and had the stores send back their 000 merchandise to have the material used for other products. I am so sad right now.

I left feedback with the great customer service representative to bring back the petite 000! If you’d like to see this size, I suggest you do the same. Strength in numbers ladies!

000??!! They WILL be hearing from me! I would like to try that if it ever happens again. I fit a 00 there but I like the idea of going into a dressing room and hearing myself say, “too small.” I would have fit a 000 had I not gained 15lbs.

I want this! FOR MY MORE PETITE SISTERS!!

LOL, I’m glad I made you laugh. Hey, I have an assignment for you, do you think you can find petite fitting jewelery anywhere that doesn’t cost $100+ ? I love the look of bangles but they just won’t stay on, my wrist is too small!

I too am 4’11” and 83-87 lbs. But I’ve had 2 kids and just turned 40! Professional clothing is so hard to find. I wish that I had advice to give. Ann Taylor Loft makes a 00p that runs inconsistently so you have to try every style on and sometimes they fit. Trial and error has been my way of life BR’s 000P would have done it for me too. How would anyone know that it was there?

    Hi Donna!

My theory on why BR stopped the presses is because they were afraid of 000 backlash. Remember all the hooplah over size 00 when it first came on the market? People and news sources were up in arms over what it meant to young women who would strive to fit into tinier and tinier sizes. A store producing a size 000 would face some scrutiny.

So glad I found this site. I am 5'1 and weigh 91 lbs. Until the powers that be created vanity sizing I was a 1 or 2; however, now the only pants that fit are the Aeropostle 00 jeans. It's gotten to where I hate to shop. I can certainly identify with having to shop in the children's dept., but I can't find work clothes there! HELP! This is crazy!

BR is engaging in vanity sizing it seems.  I bought 2 pairs of pants last fall size 00P and they fit me perfectly.  I wore one pair today and they still fit.  I am 5’0 89 lbs.  So today I went to the BR store and tried on the same size in 3 different stystyles and they were all way too big.  How sad.  Well I am glad I have the one’s I bought last year.  Bye Bye BR!
