Dresses That Run Small: Diane von Furstenberg

by AlterationsNeeded on October 17, 2008

The queen of crazy prints and wrap dresses loves to design in a stretchy silk jersey, that in size 0, is often cut very small! I picked up a few DVF silk jersey dresses at Barney’s Warehouse Sale (for $50 vs. full retail of $345!), and each one was so incredibly tiny, I even briefly considered sizing up! Wrap dresses are usually a good bet for a tiny petite because the garment can be wrapped tightly around even the tiniest of waists. T…

Brand that Sometimes Runs Small: Banana Republic Petites

by AlterationsNeeded on September 14, 2008

…s. Petite plaid houndstooth wide-leg pant (way too wide for tiny legs!) Jeans: Forget it! BR jeans run big all over. The waist, thigh, and leg are always huge on me. I’ll pay for premium denim that fits WAY better any day! Dresses and Skirts: BR dresses and skirts in PXS and P00 run about 1 size too big. On dresses, I find the shoulders a little big, and the chest seaming too low, so the girls are never where they should be. The sides usually …

Dresses That Run Small: BCBG Max Azria Petites

by AlterationsNeeded on March 23, 2009

How strange that some petite lines by designers are only available at certain department stores…and usually only at Nordstrom. For instance, did you know Burberry makes petite coats? But you won’t find them on the Burberry website or boutiques…where you will find them is on nordstrom.com or in Nordstrom stores…weird huh? Well, the same goes for the BCBG Max Azria petite dresses that I tried on recently in my local Nordstr…

New Petite Friendly Brand: Lipsy

by AlterationsNeeded on August 23, 2010

Shopping in Bloomingdales the other day, I happened upon a new section freshly stocked with cute, girly dresses that all looked itty bitty hanging on the racks. A group of sales associates were hovering around, commenting on how cute and tiny the dresses looked, and how the merchandise had just been put on the sales floor. So, of course, my curiosity was peaked, and I grabbed a few dresses to try on. The results…good! Introducing…

Glamour Magazine Picks Dresses for Petites – March 2011 Issue

by AlterationsNeeded on February 15, 2011

This month’s Glamour Magazine picks some dresses for petites, and indulges us with a few fashion tips… Close-up: Here are my thoughts: Wear above the knee, & overall short hemlines – While I agree that petite women can be easily swallowed by skirts and dresses that are too long, just telling short ladies to wear short skirts is a huge generalization. Proportions play a major role, as well as personal modesty levels (the d…

Great for Tiny Petites: Wrap Dresses and Tops

by AlterationsNeeded on April 2, 2009

Wrap dresses and tops are a petite girls best friend! The genius of a wrap is that…well…it can be wrapped around the tiniest of waistlines! Wraps allow tiny, thin petites who usually can’t fit into a brand or clothing line, find something that works for them. I love wraps, and look for them wherever I go. That’s why Diane von Furstenberg is on my list of designers to check out in every store I go to…she’s the …
