How to Hang Sweaters in a Closet

by AlterationsNeeded on October 4, 2010

Without those awful shoulder bumps! While I was moving the other month, I began to unearth drawers full of cardigans I had not worn in months. Poor little neglected sweaters! They had somehow reached the bottom of the drawer, completely covered by everything else I had stuffed in there, and outta sight, outta mind. I know you’re not supposed to hang your sweaters, because they get those awful hangar indentations in the shoulder, but there …

Tiny Cashmere: American Eagle Outfitters

by AlterationsNeeded on November 6, 2009

American Eagle Outfitters has some cashmere sweaters this season…and because the brand is marketed toward teens and college students, they tend to run small. I sometimes pop into American Eagle for tank tops, and other basics, but I’ve also bought some sweaters there in the past. I’m always on the look-out for fitted cashmere sweaters, so when I saw this one at ae.com, I knew it had a chance of running small. Am…

…#8217;t go into too much fit detail about this sweater since Jean already did such a great job, but I will say the sleeves fit really slim (had to tug a bit to get them on) and the torso fits a little loose, typical of J.crew sweaters. I don’t mind the relaxed fit since I’ll be layering under these. I’m loving button-downs with sweaters, but couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to layer them without fumbling over tw…

Brand that Sometimes Runs Small: Banana Republic Petites

by AlterationsNeeded on September 14, 2008

…n are of this variety. For example, this top fit me fantastically! Petite sleeveless tie-neck top (rayon/spandex) Jackets: I’ve found a few blazers in P00 that have worked me, and each one has had the word “stretch” on the label. Go figure, since the stretchy fabric garments are cut smaller right? Look for things that say “stretch”, and there’s a chance it’ll fit. Pants: Just like with the jackets, the P00 pants that have the word “stretch” so…

Adventures in Altertions: How to Shrink Clothing

by AlterationsNeeded on December 30, 2009

I received an e-mail question about altering sweaters/knits from a reader (Thanks Erin!) not too long ago: Have you had any luck altering sweaters? I got a cute cardigan from J Crew that needs to be taken in. It’s Merino wool.  It’s sold out now, so I’m stuck either trying to alter it or shrink it on my own. Any help is welcome! I have never taken a sweater in to get altered, and have heard it’s actually not very …
