Dresses That Run Small: BCBG Max Azria Petites

How strange that some petite lines by designers are only available at certain department stores…and usually only at Nordstrom. For instance, did you know Burberry makes petite coats? But you won’t find them on the Burberry website or boutiques…where you will find them is on nordstrom.com or in Nordstrom stores…weird huh?

Well, the same goes for the BCBG Max Azria petite dresses that I tried on recently in my local Nordstrom store. The labels actually say “petite”, so these have even smaller proportions than the regular BCBG sizes. You won’t find the petite sizes in BCBG boutiques, and I have never seen separates in petites, so it looks like dresses are my only option for now.

Lots of people tell me BCBG runs small, and stress the fact they have a tiny size XXS. Well, they aren’t quite that small because I have never found a size XXS at BCBG that has fit me well enough to justify purchasing it. However, the BCBG petite dresses at Nordstrom are pretty tiny, and I plan to keep my eye on new styles for one that strikes my fancy!

Here are some BCBG Max Azria petite dresses in size XS I found at Nordstrom, and are available online:

BCBG PetiteBCBG Max Azria Floral Matte Jersey Dress Petite size XS, $160, nordstrom.com Still a bit big in the torso, and neckline is a bit low.
BCBG PetiteBCBG Max Azria Empire Waist Print Jersey Dress, $148, nordstrom.com

While not perfect, there are some pretty good options for tiny petite gals with BCBG petites in size XS. There are a few other options online that I did not post here, so check them out! It would be nice if they started making separates in petite sizes! Maybe some day…

I’ve always found it strange that BCBG didn’t make separates in petite sizes! Pants, skirts and tops don’t necessarily fit petites all that well either (actually, I have issues with many BCBG tops because the waist is too low).

For sure, Cynthia. Every time I try on a BCBG top in size xxs, the proportions are still all wrong. The waist is too low, the neckline is too low, and I need at least one size smaller…and I hate the puff/flutter sleeve thing they’ve been doing because my little arms just can’t carry that off.

I assume the petite lines for these brands are in the petite section of nordstrom? Or are they with the regular sized cloths?

Good question! The BCBG Petite dresses are in the Nordstrom dress department and the Burberry Petite coats are in the petites department.

bcbg xxs is one of the best fits for me, but I am very tall. I can imagine that the proportions would be all off on a petite woman. I was actually surprised to see it here.

i recently tried a great BCBG dress from nordstrom, split neck, xxsp, it fit so well everywhere but was very, very short (i am 5' 2" & 32B/23.5w/30.5 hip). this is the first time i have ever returned something because it was too short! this dress hit me several inches higher than the dress featured on the model–on me it fit more like a tunic. it was too bad because it fit so well in the waist and hips. sleeve length was perfect. if you are a couple inches shorter than i am, definitely give this one a shot.

I tried on all the size 0 and S/XS at BCBG outlet and everything was HUGE. Is it because it was outlet? Was it all frankenclothing that was huge and wrongly sized? Dunno but everything was most def. running big instead of small.

Hi bdaycakes – Everything was big b/c you were trying on the regular sized clothing. The dresses I'm wearing in this post are PETITE sizes. BCBG doesn't offer petite sizes at their regular stores and outlets. You have to go to Nordstrom or Bloomingdales and find the ones that say PETITE on the tag.

I can't wear regular sized XS/0 BCBG clothing either…it's too big.

Thanks for this; I recommended BCBG petite dresses to a small/thin teen girl seeking something to wear to homecoming. I figure she will need something more formal than what you have featured here, but the sizing is right on.
