Lycra and spandex are my new best friends. Garments infused with stretchy components such as lycra and spandex are designed to hug close to the body, and so are cut smaller than a similar garment of the same size in a non-stretchy material. Since they are cut smaller, they may not fit snugly on a tiny petite, but might actually fit quite flatteringly. When shopping in stores, I check garment tags for stretchy fabric content, and when shopping online, I search the online store descriptions for the word “stretch”.
