Okay…kids clothes. I largely ignore them because I find them of poor quality, distasteful style, and boxy shapes that don’t accommodate a bust, hips, rear end, or show off a waist. With that being said, I’ve discovered some pretty good finds recently from brands that carry scaled down versions of their adult styles, like J.Crew here and here (not to mention Jeans’s great find), and now Zara. This doesn’t mean I’ll go crazy with kids clothes, because I still feel a little dirty shopping in those departments for myself, but sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get a decent fit and save a few bucks.
This Zara girls tweed jacket was $45.90 (still available in blue), which is much cheaper than an adult version which can run between $70 – $130 depending on whether it’s the Zara main line or TRF line. Considering the adult versions need alterations for me as well, it seemed like a good deal if I could get away with some simple alterations on this kids version instead of forking over the price for an adult size plus more costs in alterations.

Finding blazers and jackets that fit in the shoulder is one of my biggest challenges, and when they don’t, it can be a $100 cost to fix at the tailor. So when Jean tweeted this little chain detail tweed jacket a while back from…get this…Zara Kids, I was curious enough to order two sizes.
Kids clothing is notorious for not only kiddish details that can look horribly wrong on adults, but also for unflattering boxy shapes. Knowing this, I figured if all the jacket needed was a de-boxing with a little tailoring, and it didn’t look too little-kiddish, it could easily be worth the relatively low cost to get it altered. Well, I liked it enough to keep and alter, and now I have a little summer-weight cream tweed jacket to play with. I’ll share the alterations in an upcoming post.

Like a switch, as soon as I got home from LuckyFABB, I got horribly sick. I don’t get sick often, but when I do, it takes me down for the count. For about 5 days straight, I couldn’t even muster the strength to get dressed, and only left the house to eat (the boyfriend dragged me out for a Cinco de Mayo lunch at our favorite Mexican food restaurant, after which I promptly went back to bed). I’m still fighting off the lingering cough…ugh!

Last week, I attended the LuckyFABB (Fashion and Beauty Blogger Conference) in Santa Monica, CA. Held at a beautiful beach house on the sand, it was thrilling to be among so many familiar faces (mostly familiar because they grace my Bloglovin’ and RSS feeds). It was also terrifying, because I had to pack several outfits worthy of being seen in the graces of women much, much more stylish than myself. The shoes alone at this conference were enough to make anyone drool in envy.

Sometimes when a trend comes along that I really want to indulge in, I wait around for one of my tried and true brands to come out with their version of it. It means I’m usually a little late to the game, but it’s usually worth the wait.
When smoking slippers first hit the scene last year, I loved the mix of loafer and slipper. It’s a fun little flat with just a hint of ridiculous decadence reminiscent of highfalutin oil barons smoking pipes in their drawing rooms.
Finding the perfect one was a quest in itself. Having narrow feet made it more difficult, since most were too roomy in the toe-box, and some of my favorite prints were never even made in my shoe size. I also wanted a low vamp (the upper part of the shoe), since nothing cuts a leg line on a shorty like myself than a high vamped shoe. Then, one of my all time favorite shoe brands, Cole Haan, came out with their perfect little version and I was in love.
